Professor and Class,
Client may be reluctant to therapy if they are mandated to participate due to court order or part of a recovery program. Therapy is best receive by willing and motivated participants who are not coursed by authority or loved ones.
To foster an environment of that allows said clients to become invested in therapy, the clinician should develop a “duel-role relationship (firm but fair)” that motivates the clients participation in therapy, with the goal to reduce future offending behavior.
Creating a quality relationship with the client, giving special attention to trust and transparency, promotes individual receiving mandatory psychotherapy to actively engage in the treatment process. Upon completion of therapy, the client will fulfill their ordered obligation, while also possessing skills to hopefully not make the same decisions that originally caused the mandatory sessions.
