In West Side Story, though, the tragic ending results from prejudice and misogyny. Anita attempts to deliver the message only to be sexually assaulted by the white men in the Jets gang. In West Side Story both of the gangs are immigrants; but of them interact with police officers; one of the gangs is white. Along with the pandemic being in the forefront in 2020-2021, so have protests against racial injustice. As you watch the film, note any details that you feel relate to our current context, when it comes to racism, police, immigration, violence, and so on. You might want to pay particular attention to the performances of the following songs: “Tonight,” “America,” “Gee, Officer Krupke!”Important: This assignment is designed to take you only as long as it takes to watch the play.
