Recently, some students have refused to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. They claim that it is a First Amendment issue and that the school cannot force them. The school, however, believes that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is a part of the school day and that the students’ behavior is simply insubordination. You are a police officer in the town, and the police chief knows you are taking a course on Constitutional law. He asks you to create a document that he can share with the school that outlines the following: a description of the First Amendment,
the laws surrounding the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools,
at least one recent incident surrounding the Pledge of Allegiance and its outcome, and
a conclusion with a recommendation to the school on how to handle the students.
Your essay must be a minimum of two pages in length. You must use a minimum of two outside sources. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary.
