Justifying an Argument – Writing a Thesis Statement for an Upcoming Essay… here are the guidelines…

The thesis will be the center of an essay regarding:

Essay Two:   Justifying an Evaluation

Objective:       Compose a balanced, insightful critical evaluation on a subject of your choice from one of the categories listed below. Your topic and your judgment must be well defined. Be sure to only address relevant issues and use valid support for your argument. Be sure that your thesis is in the introduction. In addition, you need to give a minimum of THREE (3) reasons to support your judgment.  For example, whether you assert that reality television has contributed greatly to the demise of morality in America or that it has contributed greatly to the healthy psychological makeup of the average viewer, you must give at least three reasons to support your assertion. In addition, you must elaborate on why you believe this information to be valid. It is imperative that you provide sufficient information.

RULES:

For each assignment, the student is required to submit a thesis statement and supporting information for approval. The thesis statement must be a well-developed sentence that clarifies the objective of the essay. Relevant to the essay, the student must present a minimum of three reasons to justify the judgment. The reasons must be written in complete sentences.

For example, a student may evaluate the effects of fast food employment on teenagers. The student may argue that fast food restaurants are counterproductive for teenage employees because the jobs undermine academic performance and involvement, do not teach any useful skills, and negatively influence a teenager’s view of money.

example: Though fast-food restaurants are often the first employment opportunity for teenagers, the jobs are counterproductive for teenage employees and contribute to the high school dropout rate.

Reason One:

Fast food restaurant jobs undermine academic performance and involvement for teenage employees.

Reason Two:

Fast food restaurant jobs do not teach any useful skills to teenage employees.

Reason Three:

It skews teenager’s value of and realistic perception of money.

To receive credit, the submission must be in the CORRECT format and be received before the deadline.
