You are going to choose a modern day traumatic event
You are going to choose a modern day traumatic event such as Pepys and Defoe did and write about it. This can be any catastrophe, anyplace in the world – from earthquakes, to fires, to tsunamis. Moreover, you are going to write a historical fiction story, based on facts that you are going to learn today in research.
Here are the guidelines
3 pgs, double spaced, Times New Roman or Arial, 1 margins (MLA Format)
No extra spaces between lines, paragraphs intended 12
2 sources, cited at the end in MLA format (no in-text citations)
Write as a diary- you are there.
Historical Fiction- based on facts that you research.
It must be a real event- you did not need to really be there.
‘Modern’ fiction means any time since 1950.
More details;
Pepys was a 17th century English bureaucrat whose talent for admin helped revolutionise the Navy. While Pepys was a fairly important man, he wouldn’t be remembered today except for the fact that he was a keen diarist for about ten years, and it’s a very interesting document.
He lived through fascinating times, but it’s the everyday detail of his life that is so engaging. He liked plays, money, and sucking up to the nobility; he was, I’m afraid, a terrible sex pest and also adulterer, who would regularly sneak off to fondle other women; he struggled with what really sounds like irritable bowel syndrome, and was once ‘cut for the stone’, a terrifying no-anaesthetic operation which was the only way to deal with a bladder stone and which killed people every day.
