Analyze an American interest group in an area that is important to you or your interests. You may examine a U.S. trade association, professional or union group, or a public interest group like Sierra Club. If you have any doubts as to whether your group qualifies as an interest group or not, please email me for clarification.
According to Janda et al., how would your interest group be characterized (trade, professional, etc.)? Describe the reasons for the group’s formation, and the history of the group’s development. Who is the group’s leader, and how is it structured internally? What are the policy goals, if any, for the group?
What actions has the group taken to advance or oppose legislation for its cause? In your opinion, is the group successful? Why or why not?
Finally, analyze the issue of bias. Which part of society does your group represent? Is the interest group system in the United States biased? Why or why not? Give evidence for your position.
