A team that is wanting to rebrand can be doing so for different reasons. For some teams it can be to change the way fans see their organization. When the Charlotte Bobcats changed their name to the Charlotte Hornets, they changed their branding techniques. Each team has a their own mascot. After they renamed, the Hornets sent their mascot to houses throughout their community.
Doing this it brought up their attendance ranking by six spots and 300% increase in merchandise sales. In 2010, Michael Jordan, considered the best player to ever play the game, become the owner of the Bobcats. With Jordan being the owner this automatically brought more fans and a positive impact to this organization. One of their biggest goals, when Jordan become owner was to reconnect with the city and make a new name for the Hornets. Creating a new “brand identity” with the Hornets organization, Nike Jordan brand, and NBA merchandising.

If the Charlotte organization did not rebrand or Michael Jordan did not become the new owner, would they be as successful as they are now? Or would they have lost interest from fans and have to shut down their organization?
